Disney World's Pearl

In the land of Faux everything we found a pearl of education on our trip!  For several weeks Matthew (age 5)  has been asking me about where pearls come from?  I explained how they are made from Oysters..... He kept calling them clams... ANYHOW we are with the Orlando and the San Diego Cousins walking in downtown Disney when we come upon a booth.  It was a booth where you can buy an oyster (14.99) and have them open it and it is guaranteed to have a pearl.  I thought this would be cool for Matthew as he is a visual type learner.  The neat thing was the lady running the booth went through the whole educational talk on how pearls are made and the whole history of pearls.  When she finally opened his oyster she found an unusually large pearl and he was thrilled!!  To make a long story short, we ended up getting an oyster for all the cousins.  The age of the oyster was 8 and they die a natural death before they harvest them.  I found this on the Internet about what the name Pearl actually means.

The name 'pearl' has various origins. The Teutonic derivation comes from the noun beere, meaning berry. Latin derivations are pirium, a sphere, and pirula, a pear. The Romans used the Greek word margarita, describing something of unique value, a cherished possession or a favourite child.
I also wanted to update you on my "friend" who is doing her weight watchers.....In her words "She not only has fallen off the wagon.....she well got run over by the wagon."  Stay tuned I know she is going to look fabulous by summer.
Have you ever wanted to quit something or start something but can't seem to get it going? I know my friend feels this way about her weight issue (she looks fab already) really.  I want to start teaching myself Spanish and I want to quit a bad habit (and no I am not bringing up what the habit is)  I will tell you I am on 0 days of Spanish and day 5 of quitting the habit.   No, I do not smoke.  I will update as I progress on these issues.... (oh and it isn't swearing) but that would be a good idea.
