Roosting Roasters!
Not really roasters, these chicks are for eggs. They will be 2 weeks old tomorrow and they are ROOSTING! It totally cracks me up. I had to sneak up on them to get the pic. They look bigger then they are but they are just eating and pooping. I have to change their newspapers several times a day! EAT, poop, poop, poop eat poop. (you get the picture). They have a box within their pen and they hop up there and roost. I like to sneak up and see them sleeping.. it looks like a delicate balance! They are growing tooo fast. I will be happy when they can go to the big girl coop. Last night I made cornish hens for dinner. I could not eat any. I hope I am not developing and aversion to chicken. It was just toooo close to home (literally).

Have you let them out in the garden yet?
They should learn to eat insects.
Don't they also need to eat sand to help digestion? (They have gizzards)

They can't go out yet, they have to be "hardened off with the temps" each week decreasing the temp about 5 degrees until they can go out. They are prone to a sickness at this age and are under medicated food. I keep telling John that they need to go scratch up some stuff LOL I AM feeding them some grit for their gizzards. I sprinkle it on their food. When we butchered our chickens back in the day we would cut open the gizzards to see the shiny rocks. Once we opened one and found a bright shiney tiny screw. They were free range and found it somewhere in the yard. Trust me I can't wait to take them outside, it is going to be so funny and cute.
