Sunflower seed tapes

Well these pics are not of Sunflower seed tapes they are lettuce, herb and butterfly seed tapes we did for garden class.  Today I made Sunflower seed tapes to put in on the border of the garden beds to gussy them up. I have about 8 various sunflowers of color and size.   I just went and checked to make sure that word  gussy really is a word.  I have picked up in the last year     Seed tapes are good for carrots and also for lettuce.  If you are doing a really decorative garden bed you can really get creative and have good control over seed placement.
Intructions:
*Toilet paper (not the cheap kind or it will separate) cut in half...you can also use coffee filters. People do use newspaper strips but I hate the feel of the ink getting on everything.
*corn starch mixed with water (thick enough to form a paste)  OR Elmers Glue *note I have not used the corn starch.
*measuring tape
*seeds
*newspapers or old shower curtain to keep floor clean.
Use the seed placement guide on the back of seed packet to find out how far apart to place seed.  Making a seed tape allows you to not have to thin your plants, they will be perfectly spaced.
Dab a dot of glue or starch and place seed.  Let the tape dry and voila its ready to be rolled up and stored in a ziplock for later or you can place it in your garden.
Lay seed tape in desired spot, lightly sprinkle dirt over it, water in.  Make sure you keep up with watering.  Your seed tapes will keep your tiny seeds from floating away and will dissolve, composting into your soil.
I think this would also be a good homemade gift for a Grandma/Mom who gardens.

I wish you had posted this earlier. What a great idea.

I planted many small seeds. Now it's such a pain to thin the seedlings and also I wasted many seeds.

    Thanks.

That is a nice idea. I tried it and it works.
I modified the idea a little. I mixed the seeds with the glue, diluted the glue, and added a little Miracle Grow to color the seed mix blue. I used a little stick to apply the seed mix on the paper.
