Muscadine madness!
Beautiful huh? We, my friend E and I and our little people went picking muscadines and scuppernongs. These are in the grape family with hard skins and juicy insides. They apparently grow very well in the South and were the first cultivated types of grapes. Now what to do with these beauties? Doesn't E look like the picture of an Earth Muffin Momma?

You guys are so lucky. You have so many fun things to do in your area.
We have some green one here in the market, which they call Swamp Grapes. I understand they make very good wine.

wellll I would not go that far. The most interesting thing I saw on this farm was these spiky looking balls hanging in trees. One of the kids stepped on it and it looked to be a chestnut. That is what you see in the basket. I got home and researched it and sure enough that is what they are. This man had them growing down the drive. From my reading it does not appear we are in the climate, soil or area to grow chestnuts. That proves over and over that you can't believe everything you read about gardening, you have to strike out on your own and just try it. I do not believe they produce fruit for a long time. I would like to speak with the owner of the property when I get a chance and find out the story of how they came to be.
